Course Description

Increase your awareness in the adult/child interaction. Connect with your body through formal mindful movement practices such as walking meditation, standing yoga, and lying down yoga. Engage in exercises that will help bring this awareness into the day-to-day caretaking experiences in your life. Connect with your feelings and emotions through sitting and lying down meditation practices such as the body scan, awareness of senses, awareness of thoughts, loving-kindness, and self-compassion.

Course Goals

The overall goal for the course is to increase the wellness of children via shifting caretaker mindsets. Participants will:

  • Become aware of automatic pilot parenting

  • Observe the body during parenting stress and practicing responding with self-compassion

  • Learn to respond in stressful situations rather than react

  • Investigate patterns from childhood in order to be with strong emotions in the parent/child relationship

  • Explore one's own limits and the concept of mindful limit setting

Instructor

Facilitator Jill Stansbury

Jill Stansbury is a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction facilitator qualified by the Brown University Center for Mindfulness that has been running parenting and meditation groups for fifteen years. She has been a co-parent, extended family member caretaker, and classroom educator / school administrator for almost thirty years. Meditation has been a daily part of her life for over twenty-five years, and she looks forward to practicing with you. Her goal has always been to guide people to look at their strengths and learn additional tools to increase wellness. This course is part of her vision to share that approach with as many individuals, educators and parents as possible so that the world becomes a place that welcomes and cares for us all.
